In 2017, the entering class of 143 medical students hailed from 65 different colleges and had an average undergraduate GPA of 3.7 and an average MCAT of 514. With an acceptance rate of 7% in the Doctor of Medicine Program (2018), Emory University School of Medicine is consistently ranked among the top institutions for biomedical education, clinical care, and research in the United States. Despite these challenges, the Atlanta Medical College continued operation until August 1861 when classes were suspended due to the Civil War.
